Music Work

Music Work offers personalized sessions that use music to support mental health and emotional healing. These sessions may include lessons or music appreciation. In addition to these approaches, researchers have also investigated whether music offers additional benefits. For example, a study published in the April 2001 edition of the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine examined the potential health effects of Mozart's music. The study found that listening to Mozart could temporarily enhance certain cognitive functions, a phenomenon often referred to as the "Mozart effect." Other research in the field of music therapy has shown that engaging with music can reduce anxiety, improve mood, and help individuals manage stress. Overall, both personalized music sessions and scientific studies suggest that music can play a valuable role in supporting mental well-being.

Motion Training

Motion training provides a holistic approach to wellness by combining the timeless practices of Tai Chi, Yoga, and Qi Gong with the modern principles of Functional Fitness. Each discipline offers unique benefits, and when practiced together, they create a powerful synergy for improving physical strength, flexibility, balance, and mental clarity. Tai Chi and Qi Gong bring gentle, mindful movements that enhance energy flow and promote relaxation, while yoga deepens flexibility, builds core strength, and encourages mindfulness. Functional fitness complements these practices by focusing on practical, full-body exercises that improve daily movement patterns and prevent injury. Whether you're looking to ease stress, boost energy, or enhance your overall fitness, this combination is a versatile and effective way to achieve your wellness goals.

     Mindfulness Coaching

Mindfulness Coaching: Techniques to develop awareness and presence, enhancing emotional regulation and overall well-being. This approach provides structured exercises and guidance to help individuals become more attuned to their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the present moment.

Mindfulness asks the practitioner to focus deliberate attention on the present experience in a way that is nonjudgmental and non-striving. Techniques may include breath awareness, body scans, mindful movement, and guided imagery. This concept has been integrated into counseling practices in both formal and informal ways, with promising results, such as reduced stress, improved focus, and greater emotional resilience.

About me

I am Robert Beck. I am a transplant New Yorker male with my preferred pronouns He/Him/His.

I grew up in Irvington, NY, moved to West Virginia in the summer of 1968, and moved from WV to NJ a few times before relocating to Los Angeles.

I have an MS in Studies in Human Behavior, and worked as a fitness, music, and Psychology teacher at SJC. My additional educational background includes a BA in Liberal Arts, two music degrees (Composing/Arranging, Percussion), an Associate Degree in Wellness, and two Black Belts in martial arts.

I've been teaching music and martial arts, along with a few public school positions for 50 years. I was an adjunct faculty member at West Virginia State University for a year before graduation in 1982. I was also an assistant instructor of music at the Grove School in Los Angeles, a teacher’s assistant at Yu's Black Belt Institute, Red Dragon Martial Arts Academy, and a presenter of Wellness Programs at Raritan Valley College, NJ.

I am a member of the American Psychological Association, American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers, and American Council on Exercise.

I am also a Certified Life Coach with Race to Serenity, helping clients sort out their purpose in mind, body, and spirit. This program improves people’s lives by helping them break their negative belief patterns, act more decisively, and set clear goals towards achieving what they want from life. And in 2026 I'll be working on clinical hours to fulfill my Substance Abuse Counseling license.

I have three dogs who keep my wife and me young with their daily antics.  My wife is a therapist, which can lead to discussions of theory that I ultimately lose. She also is a fantastic cook and baker, singer/pianist for local groups, and the light of my life.

I am also was the musical contractor at the Civic Center in Farmington, which provided the community with several productions each year. This is a gift to me via Randy West as I used to play in the recording studios and pit orchestras in LA and NY.

I enjoy hiking, biking, and riding my motorcycle in this paradise of mountain ranges and rock formations. I also enjoy baseball, football, basketball, and study Bagua (a martial art), which keeps my mind and body sharp.

And finally, I'm involved with New Mexico FaCES which is a program to help New
Mexico families become digital storytellers for their own communities, preserving language and culture through projects that showcase the creative power
